Collating stock assessment packages to improve stock assessments

چکیده
• A web-based tool collating freely available stock assessment packages. Packages divided into 10 classes. evaluated whether state-of-the-art within class. Full specifications provided in a consistent manner. Test data and instructions for some Stock assessments are integral to fisheries management, the demand based on population dynamics models continues increase. Historically, have been bespoke methods software. There is now trend towards use of flexible, documented, tested maintained software packages, because such packages increases efficiency consistency should lead more reliable repeatable outcomes. We developed web-site that collates (from data-limited -rich) provide analysts with single platform summarizes features also highlight current those no longer supported or superseded. In addition providing facilitates users feedback developers regarding which other could be included future versions their see this effort as way support design next generation package.

BUGS in Bayesian Stock Assessments
This paper illustrates the ease with which Bayesian nonlinear state-space models can now be used for practical sheries stock assessment. Sampling from the joint posterior density is accomplished using Gibbs sampling via BUGS, a freely available software package. By taking advantage of the model representation as a directed acyclic graph, BUGS automates the hitherto tedious calculation of the fu...

We consider a Monte Carlo Markov chain (MCMC) algorithm for fisheries stock assessment. The biomass of this stock at a given year could be modeled as a nonlinear function of the biomass and catch for the two previous years, of different parameters (recruitment, growth rate, natural mortality rate). Given a time series of annual catch and effort data, we would like to achieve the best fitting be...

STOCK DEFINITION AND GEOGRAPHIC RANGE Gray whales formerly occurred in the North Atlantic Ocean (Fraser 1970, Mead and Mitchell 1984), but this species is currently found only in the North Pacific (Rice et al. 1984). The following information was considered in classifying stock structure of gray whales based on the phylogeographic approach of Dizon et al. (1992): 1) Distributional data: two iso...

STOCK DEFINITION AND GEOGRAPHIC RANGE Spotted seals are distributed along the continental shelf of the Beaufort, Chukchi, Bering, and Okhotsk Seas south to the northern Yellow Sea and western Sea of Japan (Shaughnessy and Fay 1977, Fig. 11). Satellite tagging studies have provided considerable insight into the seasonal movements of spotted seals (Lowry et al. 1998, Lowry et al. 2000). Those stu...

Historically, stock assessments of Atlantic blue marlin (Makaira nigricans) and white marlin (Tetrapturus albidus), conducted under the auspices of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT), have been restricted to production modeling approaches. Production models are used due to the unique fisheries and biological aspects of the species which result in a pauci...
